With appropriate supports, more seniors could live at home
Research indicates that up to 30% of individuals entering residential care after an initial assessment could have remained in the community with appropriate support.

Our services are designed to help individuals maintain their independence in the community for a longer duration. These services encompass a range of interventions, including addressing wandering behaviors and providing support for those with higher levels of functional and cognitive impairment. By offering tailored assistance to individuals living alone or to those whose caregivers are unable to continue providing care, we can potentially reduce the demand for residential care.

Why the Home Matters

Our caregivers truly understand the significant difference of working with someone in the home  compared to an institutional setting. We know this is your home and this is where you want to be that’s why our caregivers are compassionate, attentive individuals who prioritize your comfort and respect your personal space and needs. We emphasize a strong focus on patient-centered care, ensuring that everyone’s preferences and values guide our approach.

We believe in fostering open lines of communication between healthcare teams and families to rebuild trust and ensure everyone is informed and involved in the care process. We are also committed to establishing patient advocacy programs that amplify patients’ voices, ensuring that their needs and preferences are always heard and respected in their care journey.

Certain factors increase the likelihood of entering residential care

Studies have identified up to 33 factors associated with entering residential care. One study highlighted six significant factors influencing admission: the completion of an initial assessment in a hospital or at home, an individual’s dependence on physical assistance (with those needing extensive help being 3.3 times more likely to enter care), cognitive impairment (where moderate impairment increases the likelihood by 3.2 times), living alone (which doubles the likelihood), the inability of a caregiver to continue providing support (1.9 times more likely), and a recent history of wandering (1.7 times more likely).
